Serverless Summer Solstice
June 2026
Welcome to June 2026! First day of summer has come and gone and now we are ready for sunny days. Granted, I live in San Francisco and our weather patterns don’t really match what people think when they think “summer”.
It is graduation season so I went to see my friend walk the stage and earn her master’s degree. It was held at a vineyard in the South Bay and let me tell you, it was amazing (see below).
It’s always nice to see people who worked so hard get their flowers and it was nice to be able to support them.
You know who needs their flowers (transitions are not my strong point)? Serverless!
No surprises as 90% of the posts were AI adjacent. More specifically, agentic AI. I predict that this will be a common theme moving forward. I mean, regular applications still exist as do databases, but it seems like everyone is focused on agentic applications and RAG databases.
But hey, if that’s what it take to have serverless grow in popularity, I am here for it. Let’s look at the news shall we?

Closing Thoughts
One of the most interesting things that happenes this month was the rise of the Firecracker. It is a microVM that can be used as a serverless runtime due to it’s small size and portability, not unlike a container. AWS Lambda adopting Firecracker will allow it to run workloads for up to 8 hours which shows that even Amazon is looking to evolve FaaS.
OpenSearch is now separating the compute layer from the data layer to be a more serverless database. While the idea isn’t novel (for example, Google BigQuery and Redpanda do this), the fact that a major player is adopting it shows that there is a place for serverless databases in the market.
Of course a number of companies have launched Agentic capabilities into their platforms. As I mentioned before, I think this will be happening more and more in the near future.
As an aside, I am changing how I am collecting and reviewing Serverless News. In the past, I have used Google Alerts and a lot of RSS feeds and organic searches to find interesting things to share.
Over the past month, I have been able to create a tool the collects serverless news for me and helps me review them for content. While AI is helping, I will always read the articles myself and I will always do my own writing. I hope that July 2026 will reflect more stories and maybe even a format change!
Until then, have a great July!
